For people who like their kids to learn faster also like to observe the skills that are being developed in them. Helping kids to read is one of the most important skills that they will ever learn in their lives. The first few years of reading instruction may get a little frustrated and crucial. Here are a few steps one can adapt to teach kids how to learn to read.
- Look for the skills that are already developed in your child. Now to check how good their memory is show them a few items, may be a pencil, pen, book, colors, blocks anything interesting. After a few moments hide these items and see if they still remember what you showed them.
- Put some colors in a specific order similarly and once they have a good look at it, hide them. See if they can remember what order they were placed in.
- Teach the sounds of the letters together with their names. The sound of the letters are often different from the name of the letter. In reading, it is the sounds that count. When you read to the child, point to the letter C, for example and say; “the name of this letter is [see] and it makes two sounds: [kkk] as in the word cat and also [sss] as in the word cent.” Then ask child to give you examples.
- It is not necessary at this stage to teach them about consonants, vowels, long and short sounds and such. They can learn to read just as well without these rules. Mostly English speaking children already have an excellent grasp of grammar of the language and in due time, they will learn all the formal grammatical rules in school.
- Choose materials of interest to the learner. If your Kid enjoys sports, animals, cars, crafts, or some other topic, use materials related to that topic. They will not only learn fast but they will enjoy it as well.
- Ask questions to make sure that your kid truly comprehends what he or she is reading.
- Keep a note of their beginning skill level and of the progress your kid is making. Please keep in mind that reading is a complex activity and that some children are actually not developmentally read to read until the age of 8 years.
- Observe your child carefully to evaluate their skills.
- It’s important to pay attention to memory and sequencing skills. Their can be a lot of combination you can make to keep it interesting. Be patient with your child and try to make this a game that is enjoyable and sfun. Keep repeating this process unless they get it all
You can move on to a new step once they got hold of this. These are the most basic things you should first teach a kid. I hope this helps. Feedbacks are more than welcome
