Reasons why College Students Leave/Drop-Out
Most Students think that getting accepted at the university is all they had to do and now everything is going to be easy. Well that was probably the easy thing… surviving at the university is the harder job! Almost 30% of the students who enter university drop out in the first year!. Here are the most common reasons why College Students Leave/Drop-Out
1. Too much fun at the expense of classes and grades. Students get involved in parties too much that they do not complete their assignments and homeworks.
2. A sense of not belonging; a sense of isolation, homesickness. Some students are just not strong enough! They start missing their families and waste too much time thinking about them!
3. Academically unprepared; burned-out on education. Not everyone is a genius and not everyone can cope with the extreme pressure of university studies!
4. Financial constraints; low on funds. Most private universities are extremely expensive and for some families its just not possible to afford it.
5. Choice of wrong major; major not offered. Most students are not really sure what they are doing in university. You must be sure about the major you decide before going to college. You can not become a doctor just because your dad wants you to become one. Okay you want to do engineering but do you know how many types of engineering programs exist? Does your university offer them? Is your university good for doing that program?
6. Lack of advising, guidance: Most of the students are just not provided the proper guidance to attend university either from the parents or the school. Parents usually confuse the child so much that he is not able to make proper decision. Students should be allowed to chose where they want to go and what they wants to do. Half the students are not sure what they want to do and school councellors should help them decide that!
7. Work Pressure: Parents who can not afford university tuition want their children to work part time. It becomes extremely difficult to attend classes at university for 8 hours then do the assignments and then go to work. Students take the easy way out and simply drop out from the university.
